My Tips

by

The tips I offer here are personal experiences of mine with my Keurig coffee maker, with the hope that some of you  might find them useful.

As convenient as this coffee maker is with the Keurig K Cups, there are times when I find myself wandering outside the box.

Or maybe inside the box…I recently found a box of tea bags that had been around for a while, and didn’t want them to go to waste.  I grabbed a quart Mason canning jar, threw in a bit of sugar and a tea bag, and brewed hot water from my Keurig coffee maker into it.  I then let it cool a bit, and put it in the fridge.   I did the same with a second jar—lather, rinse, repeat.  Now I keep a backup in the fridge all the time.

Another tip:  brew a K Cup of cocoa or hot chocolate, but for a larger amount, use the 10 or 12 ounces setting of hot water and add cocoa or hot chocolate mix to taste.

I won’t go as far as claiming the possibilities are endless, but there is a lot of versatility to be discovered with these machines—see what you can find.

  1. I’m on my second Keurig. When my first unexpectedly kicked the bucket I immediately (and I mean IMMEDIATELY) started looking for a replacement. I hate waste and can’t use a pot. I also love really good coffee and most machines I’ve used over the years produced mediocre coffee at best, no matter what I tried. I do have a Melita pot I keep for those occasions when I need quantity, but to be honest have not used it in a few years. Some things just take priority. 🙂

    1. Priority is the word. I have been through several, from normal wear-and-tear use, and PANIC is the sensation I have when they go south on me. HJope your second Keurig lasts a long time, and thanks for the comment,

  2. Oh, I do love a Keurig! We don’t have one. We found something similar but will brew a pot or a cup. Love it! I think it’s great that you are finding so many uses for yours. I used to have a client who had one. I brewed her a cup of coffee every morning and sometimes a pot of tea. Do you ever run into the problem that your maker and the tall cups/pots don’t fit it even with the bottom removed? I ran into that. Aside from that, the maker is so easy to use and to clean.

    1. Thank you Erika for your comment. I have several thermal cups that require the removal of the base, but nothing yet that won’t fit then. I use mine two to four times per day. Best wishes,

      Joe
